Meet the Director

Alecia F. Grigsby, PhD, LMFT, RN

Director of Physician Vitality  |  Professor, School of Medicine

Dr. Alecia F. Grigsby is dedicated to extending Loma Linda University’s mission of wholeness and Christian service to physicians and residents at Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Grigsby holds degrees in marriage and family therapy, nursing, and family social science and is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She has directed therapy clinics, supervised therapists in training, worked as an ICU nurse for 20 years, maintained a psychotherapy private practice, and taught in counseling, psychology, social work, and marriage and family therapy graduate programs. She holds membership in the Collaborative Family Health Association, National Council on Family Relations, American Balint Society, and is a clinical diplomate of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Dr. Grigsby is available by pager and is often able to come to you or meet at a mutually determined location for consultation, debriefing, or simply an encouraging conversation. You needn’t have deep-seated emotional issues or symptoms of burnout to meet with her. In fact, her role is not to be a therapist for doctors, but to offer referrals, troubleshoot when difficulties arise, or offer coaching or consultation about issues that may be helpful to you. Sometimes a friendly chat helps make the day a little brighter. She is eager to hear your ideas about how to collaborate with your department on initiatives that will improve morale, education, and research opportunities.

Dr. Grigsby is available for workshops, grand rounds or confidential conversations regarding any issue affecting general physician wellbeing.
